American football has become a very wealthy and powerful den of iniquity. Veteran coach Tony D'Amato has seen it all come to pass, during the many highs and lows of the Miami Sharks, but the corruption, greed and general lack of respect is beginning to wear him out. Oliver Stone's latest offering is powerful and dark, with some grippingly tense scenes on and off the pitch, but it seems strangely lacking in any depth of characterisation, instead plumping for a series of cliched individuals. Any Given Sunday is a good drama but it lacks any real people and ultimately a point worth caring about.
