This is the best of the recent Vietnam films and certainly one of the best war films ever. Brutal and black, realistic and terrifying, it portrays the systematic dehumanization of training and the resulting horror of actual war. Unreservedly acclaimed by the critics, this masterpiece must be seen.

HAMBURGER HILL (1987)
Certification18 Our Rating
Of all the 1980s rash of Vietnam movies, this was the simplest, bloodiest and most action-packed. Based on the true story of the assault on a well-fortified NVA position, Hill 937, this was a bloody, pointless and suicidal event which created near mutiny in the American ranks as their bodies littered the hill. Like a harrowing remake of 'The Sands of Iwo Jima'.

M.A.S.H (1969)

Not to be confused with the TV series, good though that was this is the original item that started it all off. Blacker harder-hitting and funnier than the TV version, although featuring the same characters and some of the same actors. An all-time classic anti-war movie. Just brilliant, see it!

PLATOON (1986)

Oliver Stone's autobiographical account of life at the front in Vietnam deservedly swept the Oscars. It is particularly strong in portraying the tensions within the army social group between the brutal all-American rednecks and the more liberally inclined cynics.
