A classy screen adaptation of Noel Coward's play about the problems caused to Rex Harrison's second marriage by the spirit of his dead wife who appears at a seance and proceeds to bug his new wife. Decent, dated special effects and the screenplay a fine example of Coward's finest wit.

JUDE (1996)
Certification15 Our Rating
Based on Hardy's "Jude the Obscure", with an ace performance by Eccleston (Shallow Grave) as the young stonemason whose scholarly ambitions are scuppered by an unhappy marriage to the local floozy. When he begins an illicit love affair with his beautiful cousin, tragedy is all too inevitable. Bleak but superb.
