Superb drama with Costner in perhaps his best role as jailbreaker Butch Haynes, a career criminal who has to kidnap a young boy to escape the law. The drama unfolds with the relationship between the two, and the pursuing Eastwood. Great performances, particularly the boy (T J Lowther) and excellently directed. find out more...

In the build-up to the 1972 US elections, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward investigated what seemed to be a minor break-in at the Democratic Party headquarters, the editor of the Post was prepared to run with the story and assigned Woodward and Carl Bernstein to it. Their painstaking research found the trail leading higher and higher in the Republican Party and, eventually, into the White House itself and led to the downfall of Nixon. Boston police officer Thomas Craven's engineer daughter is gunned down on a visit home and, as he investigates, he is dragged into a web of corporate and government conspiracy.
We don't have a genre for poor Hollywood remakes of great foreign stuff - perhaps we should - and I strongly recommend that you watch instead the quality 1985 BBC mini-series of the same name from which this detective thriller is adapted. Nevertheless 'Edge of Darkness' the remake works efficiently enough. find out more...
