Napoleonic soldiers may never have been the sharpest tools in the military box, but these two duelling nutters take the cake - after a minor incident they duel obsessively for 30 years. Based on Conrad's story this film was voted the Best Debut film at the 1977 Cannes festival. A kind of Napoleonic Western dealing with obsession and honour, with great costumes and visually stunning.
