Shrek is an Ogre who lives in contented anonymity in his swamp, but the threat of losing his home forces the reluctant beast to set off an adventure to rescue a tougher than old boots damsel in distress, closely followed by a particularly gobby donkey. Shrek effectively carries on the fine tradition began by 'Toy Story', stunning computer animation tied to a story that's apparently for kids but which has a script that's knowing, witty, loaded with in-jokes and squarely aimed at the adults. Woody is kidnapped by an antique toy collector, and kept with a new bunch of characters, while the rest of the gang come to his rescue. It's rare that sequels improve on their predecessors, especially when they're as entertaining and inventive as the original Toy Story, but this does. For those not in the know the two films are completely computer animated and full of great gags, dazzling action and deft action. Kids love it, adults may react more deeply. An absolute must.
