Amanda Wingfield is the unquestioned matriarch of her household, a woman who still clings to her more illustrious past in order to avoid the day to day banality of her faded present. Her two grown children still reside in the family home but each in their own way ache to escape the claustrophobic clutches of their mother. But it is the arrival of her son's friend that begins to show up the fragility of the Wingfield household, a turn of events unfolding with the arrival of this relative stranger that threatens to shatter the tenuous environment that Amanda has created. Regarded by many as one of Tennessee Williams finest plays The Glass Menagerie portrays his classic hallmarks of faded glories lost aspirations and desperate delusions, beautifully performed by all involved.
