Ridiculed and starved of affection as a child young, veterinarian May lives socially and emotionally isolated from the world around her. With only a handmade doll for company and her prowess as a seamstress to fill her days May yearns for human intimacy and friendship. Enamoured by the hands of a local mechanic she embarks on a journey to find the perfect companion, but when her illusions are shattered by the stark reality of human relationships, she concludes that if she can't find a friend she'll make one! In "May" Lucky McKee delivers a masterpiece of quirky, dark cinema using a script that is crisp and refreshingly original and performances, particularly that of Angela Bettis as May, that manage to be both moving and horrific in equal measures. Highly recommended.
