A wordy, whimsical slice of nostalgia from Whit Stillman ("Barcelona", "Metropolitan"), set in the ugly early '80's (Did we really wear those clothes? Oh yes...). Mainly clustered around the setting of "The Club" (a thinly disguised Studio 54), the film focuses on two New York graduates - the naive Alice (Chloe Sevigny) and the cock-sure Charlotte (Kate Beckinsale) and their ill-timed attempts to immerse themselves in a social scene which is all too obviously dying a long overdue death. Strong performances and a shoe-shuffling soundtrack.
