Part docu-drama, part bodice-ripper, this is the story of the daughter of renowned painter Orazio Gentileschi. Although sharing her father's passion for art, the seventeen-year-old Artemisia is frustated by the patriarchal constraints of 17th Century Italy, which forbids women from studying at the Academy. Eventually allowed by her father to study alongside radical painter Agostino Tassi, events spiral out of control when Artemisia's interest in her mentor takes a more personal turn. Superb costumes and beautiful cinematography.
