The Night Of Truth was conceived in memory of director Fanta Regina Nacro's uncle, accused of inciting a coup, and subsequently murdered. Set in an unnamed African country, events occur after a bitter civil war between the ruling Nayak tribe and their rivals, the Bonandes, who, ten years prior, had attempted a military coup.
