Eight-year-old Zachary has, so far, enjoyed life as his father's favourite son, as the possessor of a gift for healing and as younger sibling to a tearaway, a jock and a bookworm, but this relatively idyllic childhood in Québec is cast under the shadow of his dad's suspicions when he is discovered wearing a dress. Seven years on it's 1975 and Zac is in thrall to Ziggy Stardust and his cousin's boyfriend, a confusing situation for him, made more complicated by a history of trying to satisfy his d find out more...

Nothing more can be said about this classic melodrama from the peak of the Hollywood studio-film era. Hardened cynic Bogart softens when he meets old flame Bergman who is now a refugee in neutral wartime Casablanca. Together they outwit the Germans... and of course there's that famous song. Watch this classic or some day you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow... find out more...

George Romero's classic horror satire gets a rather more serious modern day makeover, resulting in a genuinely frightening addition to the zombie genre. The plot remains fairly true to the original, portraying a world where all the seats around Satan's dinner table have been filled, forcing the recently departed to walk the earth instead. Only this time they don't walk, see. They run. And it is this subtle change that moves this film from gory satire to an edge-of-the-futon suspense horror, as a find out more...

On the July 4th holiday, an attack on the vulnerable United States infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. The mysterious figure behind the scheme has figured out every computerised angle, except of course the old school shoot, shoot and shoot again antics of the bloodied, but seemingly indestructible, officer John McClane. Die Hard 4 is so preposterous it makes the first three look plausible, but damn it's good fun; relentless, spectacular and largely CGI free action combined with find out more...

Peter Lafleur is an easy going gym owner who's been dodging the painful truth that his business is about to go bust. White Goodman is a borderline sociopath who owns the state-of-the-art fitness palace near by. These two men have history, and due to a mixture of bravado and desperation they find themselves betting everything on which one of them can win the Dodgeball championships. Phyllis Dietrichson is trapped in a loveless marriage to a man who inspires in her nothing but contempt, but rather than leave him Phyllis decides to kill him and collect on the insurance policy she's had set up with the help of her lover, and naive partner in crime, insurance salesman Walter Neff. The only flaws in their plan are the company's reluctance to pay out so much, the diligence of Neff's increasingly suspicious colleague, (and his 'little man'), and the exemplary ruthlessness of Ph find out more...

While Lilly works her job at Meaty Boy Burgers she nurses an infatuation with customer Jarrod (Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement), who blanks her until she manages to sneak into his Come As Your Favourite Animal Party, whips him at computer punch-up and a romance, of sorts, begins. Sadly, Jarrod's priorities are far from romantic; a face off with the class-mate who mercilessly bullied him back in his home town is all he cares about and, until he gets his man, Lilly knows she won't get her find out more...

An excellent black comedy, handsome thriller and a tall story that keeps you guessing as it unwinds. The genuinely ridiculous plot (a man pays a couple of goons to 'pretend' to kidnap his wife in order to get his paws on his in-laws' 'ransom' money) is completely credible as mighty plans fall apart, spiralling ever more beyond the protagonist's control and leaving us marvelling at the complex stupidity of human nature. A modern classic.
