It's the off-season at the lonely Beauregard Hotel in Bournemoth, and only the long-term tenants are still in residence. Life is stirred up, however, when the beautiful Ann Shankland arrives to see her alcoholic ex-husband, John Malcolm, who is secretly engaged to Pat Cooper, the woman who runs the hotel. Warren Beatty plays a womanising hairdresser in this satire on the easy come, easy go sexual morals of the late 1960s. Hoping, ultimately, to open his own salon Beatty's character is hamstrung not only by his own libido, but his dodgy financier with whose wife and daughter he is sleeping and who shares the same mistress.
