Set in Orange County, California, in an age where America has lost its ‘war on drugs', a reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, the consequence of which is a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode and even your own motives become unclear. Scanner Darkly is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K Dick and born of his own experiences. Like a graphic novel come to life, the film uses live action pho find out more...

Terence is a cop addicted to pain-killers prescribed to him after a work-related back injury during the Katrina flood. A chance for redemption occurs as he investigates the murder of an immigrant family.
Not to be confused with Abel Ferrara's 1994 film this is an exotic blend of European and American cinematic styles; free-spirited American junk and experimental, police procedure and fantasy. Critically acclaimed but a box-office loser - never again will the manic German be allowed loo find out more...

From the creator of True Blood, this exciting new Cinemax action drama charts the twists and turns that follow Lucas Hood (Antony Starr), an ex-convict who improbably becomes sheriff of a rural, Amish-area town while searching for a woman he last saw 15 years ago, when he gave himself up to police to let her escape after a jewel heist. Living in Banshee under an assumed name, Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic) is now married to the local DA, has two children (one of whom may be Lucas’s), find out more...

Lulu is a streetwise narcotics cop with a hatred of drugs in this hard-hitting account of the Paris drug squads' attempts to clean up the streets. The gritty neo-realist intensity shown by Tavernier was a result of experiencing the real-life side of drugs squad activities. A documentary style police drama/policier. find out more...

A superb modern thriller in the ultra-hardboiled Jim Thompson mould, in which a trio of criminals, wanted for a brutally murderous drugs heist, converge on a small, quiet Arkansas township where the local cop, treated with contempt by the LA officers in charge of the case, looks forward to a High Noon-style showdown. The asides on racial and sexual inequality are made subtly and succinctly; the performances and pacing are nigh perfect; the violence is explicit, disturbing but never gratuitous; a find out more...

After a brief introduction, in the 60s, to three young criminals, Lebanese, Ice and Dandy, the film jumps forward to the 70s prison release of Lebanon. It's the birth of a smart and ruthless organization which soon crushes all its rivals assuming total control of the Roman drugs, and other criminal, business. Their progress, and changes in leadership, is viewed over twenty-five years and is inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy; terrorism, kidnappings and corruption at th find out more...

"Josephine Decker has created a new style of thriller that employs allegory, incorporates touches of David Lynch as well as Magritte -esque imagery. Decker's setting of a remote farm feels like a metaphor for what turns out to be hell. The raw and emotional (and yes, sometimes funny) dialog tells a story that can seem familiar at points but really is meant to keep you guessing and off balance. I really enjoyed how the undertones of this film came to life through her very deft contrast of the find out more...

Trilogy consists of three stand alone stories, all set in Grenoble, and three different genres, thriller, comedy and melodrama, that taken as a whole become inextricably linked. A contemporary tour de force by Lucas Belvaux that calls to mind Kieslowski's ‘Three Colours' trilogy. In this emotive third film the only thing Pascal is sure of, in his increasingly complicated life, is his love for his wife, but with her descent into morphine addiction he can feel her slipping away from him.
