Michael Mann's late '80's prototype for his Pacino/De Niro blockbuster "Heat". Plotwise, it's a cops 'n' robbers game of cat and mouse, during which the division between good guy and villain becomes worryingly blurred. Lacks the polish of the Hollywood version, but still well worth a look. find out more...

An educated, highly efficient, mid-level cocaine dealer is working towards his dream of early retirement. He's not flash, he's not brash, he's a businessman. His business just happens to be illegal and many of his colleagues and customers happen to be lethal. When our dubious hero reluctantly takes on a missing person's job for one of London's kingpins, his organised existence begins to unravel, and when some ruthless Serbian gangsters enter the scene looking for their stolen ecstasy, early reti find out more...

Melville's masterful take on the American crime thriller perfectly combines the Hollywood gangster film with his uniquely French style. Alain Delon as a master thief, Yves Montand as an alcoholic ex-cop and Gian-Maria Volonte as an escaped criminal plot a daring heist of an upmarket Parisian jewellery store against impossible odds. find out more...

A crackingly realised biog of a man who relentlessly dodged death with a cocky ambivalence that frankly defies credulity. 'Mesrine' is stylishly shot, smoothly directed and perfectly, charmingly, sociopathically performed by Cassell. A tight, pacey thriller considerably enhanced by the fact that it's based in, well…fact. This first film takes us from his brutal initiation as a soldier during the horrors of Algeria's fight for liberation to the end of the 1960s via France and French Canada. find out more...

The last few years of Mesrine's life sees him starting to enjoy the fruits of his thievery but this is now a man tortured by his infamy; increasingly, egotistically consumed by his own invincibility. Mesrine part 2 is an odd film in the sense that it feels like half an hour of story dragged out to a feature length running time; Cassel still makes a crackingly charming psychopath mind find out more...

Danny Ocean has a plan, and darn - it's ballsy. He intends to rob three major Vegas casinos in one swoop. If successful it will leave him and his crew in a state of perpetual loadedness……failure doesn't bare thinking about. "Ocean's Eleven" is a shimmeringly slick remake of the original ratpack movie; witty, pacey and tense, it's Hollywood thrills at their best. find out more...

One of the crew's been ripped off and Danny and the boys are out for a bit of payback, the double-crosser in question being Willy Bank, THE Vegas kingpin, a man with less scruples than G Bush Jr (sorry, that's marbles not scruples, but you know what I'm getting at). Ocean's gang decide to ruin Willy's opening night, deprive him of his coveted 'Five Diamond Award' and relieve his new casino of its cash. Ocean's 13 is hopefully the last of an increasingly unimaginative franchise; still kitsch cool find out more...

The gang are back with one extra member, not to mention a very angry casino boss and a mysterious stranger determined to thwart Ocean's latest grand plan. Ocean's Twelve is a super-duper slick comedy heist movie that's ironically closer in spirit to the original Frank Sinatra 'Rat Pack' Ocean's Eleven, ie you get the feeling all the stars had a whale of a time, but in the process forgot to make it particularly fun for anyone else. Not devoid of entertainment but it lacks the sharp easy charm of find out more...
