The life story of a white boy rescued and brought up by Cheyenne Indians, whose name for themselves is, literally, 'the human beings'. From childhood, through Little Big Horn to reminiscences, the film pulls no punches and presents the white man in a pretty bad light. A great movie!

Ford's revered Western, with the superbly haunted Fonda as Wyatt Earp, forced to put on his sheriff's badge one last time. Doc Halliday and the Clanton boys want to take over Tombstone, and only Earp can prevent them. An authentically constructed movie with a melancholy atmosphere, and the famous OK Corral shootout as its climax.

One of two classic Lean adaptations of Charles Dickens. From the opening shot of Oliver's mother struggling through the snow to reach the workhouse. The film brilliantly recreates the feeling of poverty-stricken Victorian England. Look out in particular for Alec Guinness' superb performance as Fagin.

Leone's superb all-encompassing epic portraying the death of the mythical 'Wild West'. A superb cast, the collaborations of Bertolucci and Argento, and Morricone's brilliantly atmospheric score all add to the incredible style and weight of Leone's creation. A true cinematic masterpiece! A candidate for greatest movie ever made, if you haven't... then you must.

A truly remarkable adaptation of Woolf's novel. Tilda Swanton is enthralling as the androgenous and ageless Orlando seeking love in a 400 year odyssey; from the finery of Elizabeth the First's court, through the Civil War, the early colonial period, the literary salons of 1750, by which time Orlando is a woman, the Victorian era of property, and finally to the present day. Potter's direction adds a marvellous period feel. Superb, this is a magical story .

An ex-lawman agrees to escort a shipment of gold cross-country, but runs into trouble when the men hired to help him turn out to lack the same moral backbone as their boss, and plot to steal the gold. A typically classy and visceral western from the master of the genre. Sam Peckinpah.

One of the all-time great westerns with John Wayne as the small town marshall struggling to hang on to a murderer, whilst holding off a posse of villains determined to rescue him, until the state magistrate arrives. Refusing offers of assistance from sympathetic townsfolk due to their age/sex/infirmity, the tension builds as the Duke is forced to swallow his pride, realising he needs all the help he can get. Excellently acted, with some superb set pieces and even a couple of songs from Ricky Nel

A 1960s indictment of both war and 19th Century British imperialism which caricatures the aristocracy as blood-thirsty snobs and the workers as cap doffing morons, a blend that led to disaster. A well researched, thought provoking drama starring just about any British thespian who wanted a job. Included on the DVD is the 1912 silent version of the Charge of the Light Brigade, from the studio of Thomas Edison.
