Based on the chilling ghost story by Henry James, this recent adaptation, although beautifully designed, is perhaps less creepy than one might hope for. A rich bachelor living in a country house employs a governess to look after his niece and nephew. He instructs her to take sole responsibility for the children and to keep them from bothering him. However, sinister events disrupt the tranquility of the house, and the children become possessed. The governess thus embarks on the battle to save the children from the evil demons that lurk inside them. A stylish adaptation of a great story but not edge of your seat stuff.
