Kenji, a neatness freak who keeps his dishes washed and his books neatly stacked and categorized, has resigned himself to an early and self-inflicted demise when he stumbles across Noi, a girl who is everything he is not, a dope smoking slob who never picks anything up, but whose sister's tragic death in a car accident he has witnessed. It's a match that somehow works, and, slowly, more is revealed about the Japanese man, why he's suicidal and living in Bangkok. Last Life In the Universe is a beautiful and atmospherically shot tale, darkly humourous but ultimately kind at heart.
