Captain Scarlet, an elite member of Spectrum, earth's first line of defence, unwittingly provokes the wrath of the Mysterons, a hitherto peaceful Martian race. Along with his colleague, Captain Black, the two are killed by the aliens and then re-built as indestructible weapons to be used against humanity, but Captain Scarlet's soul remains and he escapes his servitude to lead the fight against the world's new mortal enemy.
