Roaming the streets of Moscow, unseen by normal humans, are the nightwatch, a group of altruistic supernatural do-gooders who keep the dark forces of chaos at bay once us mere more mortals have turned in for the night. Inadvertently caught up in this relentless battle is Anton, an insomniac tortured by the death of his son, and on this fateful night the world as it truly exists is made apparent to him. Nightwatch is an epic extravaganza, the striking special effects and over all ‘look', allowing easy comparisons between both the ‘Matrix' trilogy and indeed ‘The Lord Of The Rings', but, like the Warchosky brothers post-apocalyptic Armageddon the lack of characterisation deprives it of much depth, though hell....it makes for some great dystopian spectacle.
