Frank, a business school graduate, returns to his provincial hometown to take a management position in the factory where his father has been working for 30 years. Initially Frank tries to introduce enlightened ideas, but soon finds himself a tool for the bosses in the age old capital labour dispute, and, in an increasingly complicated situation, a rift is created between father and son.
