Way back in '68, lifelong mates Chris and Toni made a pact never to get trapped in a life of suburban drudgery - or "Metroland". It's now nine years later and Toni has stayed true to the cause, while Chris, after a brief taste of adventure in bohemian Paris, has married and returned to suburbia. But the 70s have their own temptations, and when Toni returns to find his friend living the life they rejected, Chris realises he finally has to make a choice.
