A really rather good blackly comic drama directed by Antonio Banderas and starring his wife Melanie Griffith. Set in the humid South Carolina of 1965. The glamourous but barking Lucille dispatches her abusive husband and heads for Hollywood to achieve her dream of stardom. Left behind in Alabama is Lucille's 12-year-old nephew Peejoe, who finds himself learning how to cope alone in an adult world rather sooner than he had expected. "Crazy in Alabama" is enjoyably offbeat, with perfect casting and a witty poignant story.
