Chas is a gangland killer, on the run from his former employers, who moves in on a lacklustre ex-rock singer and his two girlfriends. This psychedelic film juxtaposes Chas's violent energy and the fading rock star's languidness. 'Performance' is treasured as a 'sixties' classic and was Roeg's directorial debut.

PSYCH-OUT (1968)
Certification18 Our Rating
Despite being an obvious 'Summer of Love' cash in, there are some great touches in this visual trip. A deaf girl searches 'Frisco for her crazed brother, who sent her a post-card that said "God is alive and well and living in a sugar cube". She is befriended by Nicholson and friends, who help her in her search. Some great music and clothes, and Jack's back, with a new type of axe!

The man whose book this is an adaptation of, Bret Easton Ellis, claims that this comes closest of them all to portraying the world he created in his novels. 'Rules of Attraction' is a dark, nihilistic, amor

The companion film to Flesh, but now the Dallesandro character has become a down and out junkie on New York's Lower East Side and, rather than his desirable virility, his impotence becomes the central subject of the film. Typical Warhol material.

WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM (1980)
Certification18 Our Rating
A tour de force of twisted weirdness, gonzo journalism and mutated nastiness, plus a bit of fear and loathing. Based on the writings and real life exploits of 60s journalist Hunter S Thompson. It's all here, the copious drink, the superhuman drug intake, and the wind-ups shot at whatever symbol of authority Thompson considers as fair game. Excellent.
