Review
Roger Corman is a repugnant self obsessed New York advertising executive, but under the slick contemptuous one liners lurks a man beginning to acknowledge his own self-loathing. When Roger's 16 year old nephew, Nick, arrives in town looking to loose his cherry uncle Corman decides to give full vent to his abundance of knowledge, so beginning an increasingly revelatory, and seedy journey for the both of them. Roger Dodger is a slick satire on the thirties something nihilistic dating game, unfortunately it shies away from getting unredemptively low down and dirty, using the young teenage lad as a voice of decency and reason as if we the audience need to be told that Roger is deluded. Some class dialogue, good performances and a suitably predatory atmosphere keep things smooth, it's just not as clever as it thinks.
