Muzaffer lives as a film director in Istanbul when he decides to return to the small provincial Turkish town of his birth to capture through the lens of his camera the world he left behind. The irony, for both Muzaffer and his former kinsfolk, is that his devotion to his art blinds him to the real world that is taking place around him. Ceylan's second feature is a simple, elegiac tale, revolving around his own self imposed removal from rural Turkish life and the fear of losing sight of its importance to the people and himself.
