Mrs Palfrey is an ageing widow who moves to London and resides in a hotel inhabited largely by elderly widows and the odd widower, many of whom she strikes up a polite acquaintance with. Outside she meets a young writer/busker with whom she develops an engaging and productive cross-generational friendship in preference to the unwanted attentions of her daughter and grandson. A fine movie about growing older and asserting one's independence, although the cloying soundtrack often interferes with the script. Congratulations: Your vote has been cast
