Joe is searching for the family he has lost and on his trawl through America's lowest life he meets many a weirdo, not least of which is a psychotic cannibal. Finally reaching LA Joe becomes the ridiculed side-kick of a shock-jock DJ, but with the radio listeners increasingly on his side Joe begins to see his opportunities broaden.
